What is the difference between Platinum and White Gold?

Platinum is a precious metal which is often used in fine jewellery. It is dense and wears less than Gold and only requires a polish to maintain it. Gold, when it comes out of the earth it is bright yellow. This is then alloyed with white metals such as Silver and Palladium to make it as white as possible. It still has a pale buttery yellow colour so it is usually Rhodium-plated to make it look whiter. This will need to be redone periodically to maintain the look, depending on how vigorously the ring or item of jewellery is worn.
